Dit jaar brachten onze reiskriebels ons in het zuiden van de States. Enkele dagen voor de brand op het olieplatform en de verwoesting van de golfkust, de tornado in Mississipi, maar wel tijdens de grote Aswolk die het Europese vliegverkeer teisterde. Wij genoten gewoon lekker van onze 'roadtrip'. Volgens de kilometerteller reden we 4.535 km. En ja we waren op de hoogte van de problemen in Europa en in de Belgische politiek. Maar we hebben ons daar echt niets van aangetrokken.
We explored Savannah by foot. Our traval guide had documented the 'ideal' stroll, so we did.
We discovered the plenty nice green open piazza's and on our way back we discovered Savannah little secret : The Firefly cafe. Delicious food!We entered the tourist info center and were looking for a place to have some good food that evening. Since we had 3 to choose from , we would first visit George, and his organic garden. Not only did we see the garden, got a glas of icetea, had some cookies, but he also invited us for a self-made dinner! Much better then the one in Pooler.
I was awake rather early, so I took the opportunity to dip my toe in the Atlantic ocean. Cheryl had told stories about shark teeth, but I had no luck.
Bryan made us a delicious somptuous breakfast and later that day we could lend their bikes to make a tour in Jacksonville Beach. There is a store, 'Goodwill', that sells second hand cloths and purses and whatever else. But so much bigger then anything else I've ever seen. I did not find a purse, but I did find 2 tops and a skirt, for only 11$ (in total).
After having - another - somptuous lunch at Cheryl's and Bryans, we had to say goodbye and headed for Savannah.
After a short breakfast, Cheryl gave us a groupon ticket to go kayaking the intracoastal on Talbot Island with Kayak Amelia. To get to Fort George Island, we took the ferry in Mayport Village. It was 5$ for a 5 minute ferry. But the alternative was a drive of 21 miles. So we choose to go with the ferry, but return via the road.
After 4 days of themeparks, the only thing we wanted to do today was: going to a mall. Don't laugh.
When I saw there was a Cheesecakefactory, I was the happiest girl in the world. And they had very nice Clamshowder as well.
